Almost Special

Almost, but not quite special,
Was how he thought he was,
He was very nearly handsome,
But he wasn’t quite, because
His ears were slightly pointy,
His nose a bit too long
And the colour of his skin
Was altogether slightly wrong.
He was very nearly clever,
In every class he did quite well,
But he hadn’t found a subject yet,
In which he could excel.
He was very almost popular,
He had a lot of friends,
Well maybe they weren’t friends as such
Just boys with time to spend.
So he thought he wasn’t special,
Very nearly, but not quite;
But this mix of ‘not quite special’
Made a boy who was just right.
