Grow but do not change

Each day you grow
More beautiful inside and out.
Each day I see you stretching,
I see the young women you will become.
Honest and kind,
Funny and wise.
And I am proud.
What part have I played in this?
I ask myself,
For whilst you have been growing,
Illuminating the world,
I have been cowering,
Berating myself and believing the voices
That declare me a bad mother.
But are you not a little of me,
And I a lot of you?
I don’t know.
But I love you.
Do not change.

Being a parent is the scariest job of all. There is no manual and you don’t know if you made the right choices / decisions until it is too late. The rest of the world can see how you are doing and you are doing a grand job! xx
