Afraid of the Dark

She was scared of the dark
And the dark crept in,
As the dark crept in,
Bad dreams would begin,
As the bad dreams began,
She would start to shake,
Which was why she fought hard
To stay wide, wide awake.
But awake in the dark,
All alone with her mind,
Was a time she was scared
By the monsters she’d find.
Not the monsters of dreams,
But the truths in her head,
Crowding her out
Of her comfortable bed.
Crowded out of her bed,
With her mind running wild,
This grown up woman
Weeps the tears of a child.
