Unseeing (sonnet)

If you could see the way that you are loved,
And feel that love, if only for a day,
You’d see that in our eyes you are enough,
And start to see yourself a different way.

You beat yourself with standards that aren’t fair,
You’re kind to us but hateful to yourself,
Your soul is beautiful and you have flair,
But yet you beat yourself and harm your health.

Look through my eyes, behold yourself anew,
Walk in my shoes with yourself by your side,
You’ll see that there is no one quite like you,
A heart like yours is far too great to hide.

You’re great but you could be yet greater still
If you could learn to love yourself…. You will…
