…And on

Huddled in a corner
Ashamed of what she had become
She brushed away her tears
She must be seen to overcome.
She picked herself back up again,
Dusted lint from crumpled clothes,
Pulled tangles from her knotted hair,
And wiped her streaming nose.
She swapped to shoes from slippers,
And she rouged her cheeks as well.
And though she still felt hopeless
At least the World saw someone well.
