Super Hero Night-Shift

The rain beats down,
And the wild wind blows,
But tucked in their beds,
The children both know
That though it’s cold,
And wet and dark,
And monsters lurk
In the nearby park,
That they are safe
From harm in bed.
Protected by a kiss
Planted on their sleepy heads
By their super-powered Mumma
Who patrols the house at night,
Wearing superhero cape and pants
And armour like a knight.
She does night shift as a warrior,
It’s what heroes have to do,
Mums keep kids safe
From storms and squalls
And ghosts and dragons too.
They fight the battles needed
To keep kids safe all night through.
The only problem with these antics
Lasting right from dusk ’til dawn
Is that poor old Mum,
SHE gets no sleep,
So all day long, she yawns.
