Bedtime Stories

You fight heavy eyelids
To hear every word
Of a short bedtime story
You’ve already heard.

I do all the voices
I act out the parts
It’s not only you
Who knows this book by heart.

You know it by heart,
But you hang on my words
As if it’s the best
Bedtime story you’ve heard.

The minutes we share
As I read you to sleep
All form precious memories
Which safely I’ll keep.

These minutes designed
To help you end your day,
Are the very same ones
That help me find my way.
