Silver Linings

Does every cloud
Have a silver lining?
He asked,
Hope evident in his eyes
And his breath,
Which he held.
She paused before answering,
Unsure how best to proceed.
A thousand unsaid words
Were said with none.
Then,
No…
She said.
This time, there is not one.
He did not move.
Face fixed,
Body, motionless
Breath still held.
Only his eyes changed;
Hope, gone.

  1. A lovely thoughtful poem, but oh so sad. I can sympathise with the male character and with his loss of hope.
