Head Fight

The fight is only in my imagination
But it feels more real
Than reality.
More real than acrid words
And roughened hands
And spit
And bile
And hatred.
It feels more real
Than any fight I’ve ever had,
For I can exit those.
Sit on another plain,
Untouched by fists and words,
As cheeks and egos
Bruise and blister
Unfelt.
But this fight,
Which is only in my head,
Hurts so badly
I weep with pain…
And run.
From myself.
