Climbing

Scared of heights,
She climbed,
Determined.
Unsure if she could
Or would
Conquer her fear,
Knowing only
That she would try.

Should she die,
They would say
She died trying,
It was just too big a hill to climb
For one so scared of heights.

She imagined herself
Giddy with exhaustion
At the hill’s brow.
The thought electrified
And terrified her.
But there was far to go.

For now,
She would climb
And climb,
And hope.
