Listening Ear

You don’t listen because you have to,
It’s because you really care,
And on more than one occasion
I’ve been so glad you’ve been there.
Not much is gained by talking,
Or at least that’s how I feel,
Before you’ve sat and listened;
Made the things I say seem real.
It doesn’t make it hurt less
But I feel less alone.
When I talk
And you listen,
I feel I’ve found my home.

  3. To have someone who will sit with us and bear witness to our suffering is a gift beyond measure. This is such a precious poem, sparse yet abundant.
