Helping Hand

She was hurting
And broken,
Her life in a mess
When a hand
From the darkness
Reached out.

It took her hand gently
And held her a while
And gave her
A reason
To hope.

The hand soon retreated,
But its warmth still remained,
And it gave her
The strength
To try harder.

And so then each day,
She gave way to the strain
Then found strength
In this hand
And got up.
