Healing Hold

You melt into my arms,
Your body shaking with sobs,
Your eyes red and raw,
Lost in your tear-streaked,
Snot-stained face.
Mumma
You whisper as you nestle your face
Into my shoulder,
Where it fits just right.
You grip me tight with little fingers
And clamp your legs around my waist,
And you breathe deeply,
Slowly,
Calmly,
And the sobs subside.
I do nothing;
I just hold you…
But you heal.
I hope it will always be this way.
