She blow dried her hair,
Put on lipstick and blush,
Picked out killer heels
And thought of her crush.
What will he think
When he sees me?
She thought
Will he admire
The new clothes
That I’ve bought?
Or will he walk by
His eyes focussed elsewhere..
Perhaps I should rethink
The clothes that I’ll wear?
She fretted and worried
A very long time,
Until in came her Dad
Sipping on some red wine.
He asked what was up,
And she told him her fears,
Her makeup now smudged
By her free flowing tears.
Her Dad sat her down
And he gave her a hug
And then shared some advice
With a sigh and a shrug.
He told her to wear clothes
For her, not for others
That beauty inside
Can sometimes be smothered
By heels worn too high
Or an ill fitting dress,
The clothes that you like
Are the clothes that are best.
A boy who decides if he likes you
By looks
Is not a good guy,
Said her Dad,
In my books.
You’re kind and you’re gentle,
You’re funny and sweet.
Please just be you
With the people you meet.
Please don’t hide beauty
Within behind clothes,
Go out, be yourself,
Let me know how it goes..
He wished her good luck,
And his heart filled with pride
In his daughter,
Who carried so much love inside.
This is adorable:)

A Lovely poem, and so true, beauty shines from within, as my daughter tells me.

My best lines…so many smother their beauty by their dressing!
