Apple Debt

It’s not you,
It’s me,
She said to the half eaten apple
As she tossed it in the bin.
A half apple left to mould and fester,
Whilst the other half
Journeyed to her starved stomach.
What had she been thinking?
How could she luxuriate
In unearned half apples.
Run.
She must run.
It was the only way
To repay the apple debt.
It’s not you,
It’s me,
She whispered to her blistered feet.
