She Stumbled

She stumbled

Into the room,
Eyes half closed,
Blurred with sleep,
Feet unsteady,
Head not yet engaged.

She stumbled

Into another day
Of possibilities not grasped,
Of choices misunderstood
Of roads left untraveled.

She stumbled

Into the arms of some man
A man she cared a little for,
A man who would marry her,
But whose love of her
Made her respect him less.

She stumbled

Into motherhood,
Two boys, one girl,
All happy,
Or thereabouts.

She stumbled

  1. Beautiful. Painful, as things always are when they really resonate or strike quite close to home. Thank you….
