New Year’s Resolutions

You won’t become a better person
By eating greens and cutting fat,
Cutting down the booze is fine,
But self-denial won’t mean that
You’re happier or kinder,
More fulfilled or full of joy,
Working out
Or swearing less,
Might seem a cunning ploy
To find happiness inside you,
But you’re searching in the dark;
If we’re honest with ourselves,
The truth can seem quite stark.
Fat or thin or healthy,
Can hide happiness or tears,
If we really want to change things
As we do around new years,
We need to look inside ourselves;
Not a superficial peek
And make some real changes
To secure the happiness we seek.
Make more time for people,
Be much kinder to yourself,
Learn to love the way you are,
In sickness and in health.
The answer will be lurking
If you listen and you learn;
Ditch head-set resolutions
Instead, give your heart a turn.

  1. Great resolutions Pooky, I like that idea of giving your heart a go. I don’t actually make any as I don’t any more pressure put on myself than what I do to myself day to day. Getting vertical each day and stepping forward is what makes me happy.
