Changing Face

He stared in the mirror at his changing face.
He could see the boy he had been,
Innocent,
Unafraid,
Content.
He could see the beginnings of the man he would become,
Strong,
Self-assured,
Brave.
For now, his face was a hinterland,
The innocence of youth clouded, pockmarked and a little creased.
The future visible, but not yet a good fit.
He must live through the uncertainties of now, he realised,
Until he had got to know the man he would become.

  1. A lovely poem, a boy approaching adulthood, imagining the man he will be.
