You Never Lived Inside my Tummy

You never lived inside my tummy,
But that makes me no less your Mummy,
I love you still, with all my heart,
Despite your slightly different start.

I couldn’t wait to see your face,
To feel that first, unsure, embrace.
You didn’t grow inside of me,
But now you are a part of me.

And part of me, you’ll always stay,
And no, the start won’t go away,
But please remember, from the start,
You weren’t my flesh, you are my heart.

Today’s prompt was to write a poem which uses rhyme to communicate a serious topic in a light hearted way.
