Today’s prompt is to write a poem which describes the smell of something.
You might like to consider:
- Should the whole poem focus on describing a smell or should that just form part of the poem?
- Should you describe one smell or many?
- What feelings should you try to evoke with your descriptions of smell?
- Should you describe the same smell from multiple viewpoints (smellpoints?!)
- What is unique or special about the particular smell you have in mind?
- How can the use of smell contribute to your feelings your poem evokes?
- Should you choose a smell that is very familiar or try to describe a more alien smell to your readers?

Happy reading, happy writing -and if you do write, don’t forget to post your poem (in full or as a link) in the comments below so we can all enjoy it.

With your poems, like mine, I am losing track some days of what is real and what is imagined or what falls inbetween. However, everything I read on your blog is beautiful, interesting or inspiring (or all of the above) x

There’s no such thing as late! I write a new prompt each day but you are welcome to join in whenever you like. I know that Colonialist is currently working on a prompt from a few days ago and I hope that as my prompt library builds up that people will dip in and out when they’re looking for inspiration… I’m off to read your poem now!

Thanks…nice to know! Thanks for making that clear, I often come upon prompts a little late and find myself closed out. So now I know I can look around your library and maybe find something interesting for my muse!
