Other Worlds

When you live in a world,
That you don’t understand,
It’s hard not to reach out,
With a shaking tired hand,
To a world that makes sense,
Though you know that it’s wrong,
Because this is a world,
Where you can sing the song.
This is a world
Where life makes sense to you,
Where the things people say,
And the things people do,
Don’t feel distant and foreign;
Instead they feel right,
You wear this world like a glove,
And you snuggle it tight.
But you know that it’s wrong,
And you know it won’t pay,
To live in this world,
For the rest of your days.
But for now it feels safe,
So you’ll stay for today.
Maybe tomorrow,
You’ll find a new way.

Wow, this is beautiful. I love the simple structure of the lines, and the empowering topic. Would you maybe check out some of my poems? I need an expert eye.

Thanks for your lovely comment. I will head to your blog but can by no means cast an expert eye. I’ve been writing poems a grand total of 4 months 🙂

      What got you started?

    And maybe tomorrow
    is a long way away.

This poem brought forth a sadness from my heart and a tear to my eye. You’ve touched on a profound deepness and familiarity here Pooky, with much feeling.

    Knowing its wrong
    but still going on
    Because living in pain
    has hurt for too long
    And safety feels good

Ah, the comfort of numb familiarity and the aching need to belong!

Why do you feel it’s wrong to stay in this world?

  7. Oh this is so good Pooky. I stayed “in this world” far too long. Fortunately I found a new way before it was too late. Xx
