Isn’t it lovely,
When expectations are low,
But your worst fears
Turn out not to
Be how things go?
If you expect the worst,
But you receive the best,
Then you can’t help but feel
That you’ve been kindly blessed.

Yes that idea is what seems to happen a lot, where for example you don’t want to go somewhere and it turns our far better than you imagined. I think Sylvia Plath said: If you have no expectations you can’t be disappointed. Then again she was a little manic.
Nice one Pooky, it is Christmas Eve in beautiful Australia. Today for the first day in ages it is cool and rainy. Such a relief from the heat we have had this last two weeks.
Merry Christmas.

I find it strange the idea of having christmas in the heat of the summer… when I was a child, my dad told me that despite having christmas in summer, australians still send christmas cards with winter scenes – is that true?

Sadly yes, the majority of cards are winter themed. If you look on my Christmas in Australia post at the top is an image of an Australian Christmas card.

This makes my heart feel a bit sad. Perhaps because it is true and sad and hard to only live life with low expectations. Thank you for another lovely poem.

indeed – it can be hard not to get in the habit of setting low expectations in the hope they’ll be exceeded as oftentimes, life will love down or up to your expectations depending on where we pitch them…
