She’d had it good
She realised,
As she recounted her life
From the comfort of her death bed.
She’d loved,
And been loved.
She’d provided,
And been provided for.
She’d fought,
And been fought for.
She’d had purpose,
And given purpose.
Why then, had she always wanted more?
As she lay, dying, she saw with clarity
The many gifts she had received,
As well as those she’d given.
It had been a good life.
This was a revelation to her;
A most comforting revelation
To hold close and dear
As she took her final breath,
Surrounded by those she loved.
The line that really struck me “why then, had she always wanted more”
I guess that mirrors where my thoughts have been lately, struggling to recognise all the gifts and all the good.
