Keep Trying

My little girls taught me a lesson today,
About trying and trying again.
See, I tend to try once and then quickly give up,
But my girls told me failure’s just when
You’re still learning to do something,
So you need to try hard,
And just practice until it comes right.
You must never say can’t Mum,
They sternly implored,
When it looked like I’d put up a fight.
It’s not that you can’t,
You’re just still learning how,
So keep trying and don’t give up now,
Well if it works for my girls,
Then it might work for me,
So keep trying’s my mantra for now.

  2. What wise daughters you have Pooky, where did all this wisdom come at such a young age? You are indeed blessed. I like the never give up image of the bird with the frog in its mouth and the frogs hands are clasped around the birds throat. Good post with a good message for us all.

Thank you – I think it’s my husband’s fault. He read Carol Dweck’s ‘Mindset’ when they were at a very formative age and the message seems to have really hit home so now they’re the ones teaching us. We are never too old to learn though.

  3. Children have a simple wisdom. As adults we can over complicate things. This poem expresses the gift of childhood’s wisdom beautifully.
